Locusts & Honey is the working studio of Melissa Richeson-O’Neil.  Melissa grew up in the Bible Belt of Texas, wandering through fabric stores and watching her mother fashion amazing clothes and home furnishings on the family sewing machine.  Her design skills and love of fabrics are gifts of God inherited from her mother and grandmother, both true artisans with scissors, needles, and cloth.

Melissa majored in Fine Art and Education at the University of Dallas and the University of North Texas .  After graduation, she taught art in the Caribbean as both a Peace Corps Volunteer and a contract teacher.  Her love for the spectacular color and flora of that region continues to infuse her creative work with a keen sense of form and growth.

Upon her return to the States, Melissa discovered a new richness in worship when she was introduced to the seasons of the church year.  Her imagination soared, and with encouragement from her church family, she began to express her faith through the creative work of her hands.

The rest is history…Melissa moved north to study at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio .  While pursuing her Master of Arts in Liturgical Arts degree, God continued to present wondrous possibilities, and Locusts & Honey emerged on the central Ohio scene with vibrant fabrics of faith in fine art.   Her clients have included ministers and churches from Lutheran, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, and Catholic traditions.  These collaborations have strengthened the prayer-filled inspiration, attention to detail, and exquisite craftsmanship that define each stitch of Melissa’s work.
